As winter draws near, many people wonder about the best ways to store their robotic lawnmowers during the off-season. With a few easy steps, you can keep your mower in great shape and ready to tackle the lawn when the next mowing season begins. Follow these simple tips to protect and maintain your mower throughout winter.

WHY DOES A ROBOTIC LAWNMOWER NEED TO BE STORED IN WINTER?

Grass no longer grows: As autumn winds down, you’ll notice that your lawn starts to grow more slowly. It’s generally a good idea to hold off on mowing during the winter, as it can harm the grass. Before the weather gets too chilly, give your lawn its final trim by the end of October. Aim to cut it as short as possible but remember the one-third rule only trim down about a third of its current height. If your grass is looking for a bit long, no worries! You can gradually adjust your mower’s height, maybe every five days or so, to get it right. This way grass can grow back beautifully in the spring.

Time for care and maintenance: One more reason to love the winter break is that it’s the perfect time to give your lawnmower some upkeep. Before the first spring mowing, take a little time to clean it up, check everything, and make sure any software updates are done. And don’t forget to dig out the manual, it’s a handy guide to keep everything running smoothly.

Cold weather can damage the device and battery: Our robotic mower is packed with advanced technology, and to keep it running smoothly, it’s important to be mindful of the temperature! When it gets chilly outside below 10 °C the battery’s electrical voltage can drop, slowing its processes and reducing its charging capacity. To help your mower and battery perform at their best, store them in a warm, dry spot, away from frost. And don’t forget to protect the charging station from moisture while your robotic mower rests! These simple steps will help ensure your mower stays in great shape for all your lawn care needs.

HOW DO YOU STORE YOUR ROBOTIC LAWNMOWER FOR WINTER?

Preparing your mower for winter is crucial if you want it to perform at its best in spring.

  1. Turn off scheduled mowing, Open the robotic mower App, and disable any scheduled mowing tasks to prevent accidental operation.
  2. Charge the robotic mower at 70–80% in the Charging Station. To ensure the longevity of lithium-ion batteries, it is recommended that they be stored at a charge level of around 70% during the winter season. This helps prevent voltage strain, decrease longevity, and elevate temperature sensitivity. Therefore, manufacturers suggest storing the batteries at around 80–70%.
  3. Use a brush or a damp cloth to gently wipe the grass from the blade deck, the body, and the wheels.
  4. Open the Rear Cover and unplug the Safety Key.

  1. Unplug the Charging Station from the main power socket, then disconnect the extension cable from both the DC outlet and the Charging Station.
  2. Store the charging station, remove the induction loop plugs, and loosen the floor anchors to relocate the station.
  3. Ensure the mower is completely dry before storing it to prevent moisture damage. Store it in a dry indoor environment at temperatures above 0˚C (32˚F).
  4. Do NOT store the mower with a fully charged battery for longer than 6 months.
  5. Disconnect the RTK from the Base Station. If the RTK Station is installed outdoors on a wall, roof, or eave, carefully remove it for winter storage.
  6. Check the condition of the robotic mower parts. Contact your dealers for assistance if you need part replacement.

WINTER AWAKING PROCESS FOR YOUR MOWER

Once winter is over, ensure every mower part is clean and check for damage.

  • Wipe the surface with a clean towel.
  • Test if the battery is charging well.
  • Fully charge the battery before using the mower.
  • Set up the correct date and time and mowing schedule.
  • Check whether the app feature, such as mapping, is working well or not.
  • Once everything is ready, you can start using your robotic mower again.
